Note: Most project setup functions are available only on a tablet or PC.
Projects in LinkWare Live are similar to projects in your tester. You use them to to define test setups and cable IDs for a job and to organize test results. Technicians in the field can download projects to their testers to get the correct test setups and IDs for each job.
Projects in LinkWare Live also let you assign jobs to team members and collaborate on jobs with team members inside and outside of your organization.

Add a new project with test setups
When you add a new project, LinkWare Live guides you through the steps needed to create the project and add test setups, subprojects, and cable IDs. Later, if necessary, you can edit those items or add more of them to the project.
- On the PROJECTS tab, tap NEW PROJECT.
- In the New Project dialog, enter information for the project:
- Project Name: If your project will have subprojects, do not make the project name too long. When you sync the project to a tester, the project name and each subproject name show on the tester as Project Name>>Subproject Name with the tester's limit of 30 characters, including the symbol ">>". When your project and subproject names have 29 characters together, you cannot enter more characters for the project or subproject name.
- Status: If you want your team members to see the project when they sync their tester to LinkWare Live, be sure to set the Status to Active. Draft lets you create a project that does not show on synced testers. You can also set the project's status to Archive so that it does not show in your projects list when you view your Active or Draft projects.
- Customer or Contact Information, Location, Description: Enter this information to identify your customer.
- Start Date, End Date: These dates show on the PROJECTS screen to help you see when projects should be started and completed.
- Tap ADD NEW PROJECT.
- Next in the New Project Setup sequence, add a test setup to your project.
Select Copper or Fiber for the Media Type. To copy a test setup you used recently in any project, select the test setup in the Recently used section of the Media drop down menu.
For the Configuration Name, enter a name for your test setup.
Then select other settings for the test.
- When you are finished, tap NEXT.
- Next in the Add New Cable IDs step, you can add cable IDs to the main project and to subprojects. The IDs are associated with the test setup you created in the previous step.
Select the type of IDs to add:
- Sequential Cable IDs: Enter a First ID and Last ID to create a list of sequential IDs.
- Custom Cable IDs: To add non-sequential IDs, or to create a list of non-sequential IDs, use the Enter Individual function. To add sequential IDs, use the Enter Sequence function to enter a First ID and Last ID.
- Import Cable IDs: You can create an ID list in a spreadsheet program, such as Microsoft Excel, then import the .XLSX or .CSV file into your project.
- Add your ID list to the main project or to a subproject:
- To add your list to the main project, tap NEXT.
- To add your ID list to a subproject, select the subproject in the drop down list, or tap ADD SUBPROJECT.
If you are adding a subproject, enter information for the subproject in the New SubProject window, tap ADD SUBPROJECT, select the subproject in the SubProject dropdown box, then tap NEXT.
How many projects can I set up in LinkWare Live?
There is no limit to the number of projects you can set up.
Add subprojects
If you didn't add subprojects when you created a project, or want to add more, you can add them anytime.
Note: The project name and each subproject name show on the tester as Project Name>>Subproject Name with the tester's limit of 30 characters, including the symbol ">>". When your project and subproject names have 29 characters together, you cannot enter more characters for the subproject name.
- If you are not on the project's page, tap the project the PROJECTS tab.
- On the SUBPROJECTS tab, tap NEW SUBPROJECT.
- Enter information for the subproject, then tap ADD SUBPROJECT.
What can I do with subprojects?
Add managers to projects
You can add one or more project managers from your list of Internal Users who have the Role of Manager.
To see the users you can add as project managers, tap INTERNAL USERS.
To see the projects that do not have project managers, tap PROJECTS, then select Unmanaged Projects in the drop down list that shows All Projects or My Projects.
If you need to add Internal Users to your account
- Tap INTERNAL USERS, then tap ADD USER.
- Enter the person’s email address, select the Role of Manager for the user, add Administrative Privileges if appropriate, then tap INVITE USER. LinkWare Live sends an invitation to the person’s email address. The email includes a link that lets the person accept the invitation and add your organization to their LinkWare Live account.
To add a project Manager to your project
- On the project's page, tap TEAM MEMBERS.
- Next to Manager(s), tap Add new.
- In the Invite Users dialog, tap in the User to add box to select a user.
- Tap ADD TEAM MEMBER. LinkWare Live sends an invitation to the person’s email address. When they accept the invitation, you will receive an email.
Add other team members
You can add team members to projects and subprojects from your list of Internal Users or from outside your organization (External Users).
When you add internal users, they get the same role, Manager or Tech, that you gave them in your organization.
An external user can be a Subproject Manager, Tech, or Viewer. External users have access only to the subproject.
What can team members do in my projects?
If you need to add Internal Users to your account
- Tap INTERNAL USERS, then tap ADD USER.
- Enter the person’s email address, select a Role for the user, add Administrative Privileges if appropriate, then tap INVITE USER. LinkWare Live sends an invitation to the person’s email address. The email includes a link that lets the person accept the invitation and add your organization to their LinkWare Live account.
To add team members to a subproject
- In the project, tap TEAM MEMBERS.
- Tap ADD TO TEAM for a subproject.
- To add a user from your organization, make sure that Internal Users is selected, then select one or more users.
To add a team member from outside your organization (an External User), tap External User, enter the person's email address, then select a Role for the team member.
Projects that you share with external users have the collaboration icon, , on the main PROJECTS page.
- Tap ADD TEAM MEMBER. LinkWare Live sends an invitation to the person’s email address. The email includes a link that lets the person accept the invitation and add the subproject to their LinkWare Live account. When they accept the invitation, you will receive an email.
Add test setups and assign them to subprojects
If you didn't add test setups when you created a project, or you want to add more, you can add them anytime, then assign them to subprojects.
- On the PROJECTS tab, tap a project.
- On the project's page, tap TEST SETUPS, then tap NEW TEST SETUP.
- Tap the Media box, then select Copper or Fiber or select a Recently used setup to use or modify.
- On the Test Setup page, enter a Configuration Name to use as the name of the setup.
- Make selections for Tests and the Test Setup, then save the setup.
- On the TEST SETUPS tab, tap ASSIGN TO SUBPROJECTS in a setup's panel.
- Select one or more subprojects, then tap ADD.
Remove test setups
- To remove a test setup from a subproject, tap TEST SETUPS, tap the X next to the subproject's name in the test setup's panel, then tap DELETE.
- To completely remove a test setup from a project, tap TEST SETUPS, tap EDIT TEST SETUP in the test setup's panel, tap DELETE, then tap DELETE again.
How many test setups can a project have?
Each project can have a total of 10 test setups among all the setups on the TEST SETUPS tab. For example, a project can have seven test setups with one twisted pair test each, and one test setup with three fiber tests, such as an OTDR, Loss/Length, and FiberInspector test, for a total of 10 test setups.
A project can have a maximum of 10 test setups when each setup has only one test.
Add cable IDs
If you didn't add cable IDs when you created a project, or you want to add more, you can add them anytime. You can add cable IDs to the main project and to subprojects.
- On the PROJECTS tab, tap a project.
- Tap RESULTS, then tap ADD CABLE IDS.
- On the Add New Cable IDs page, select Sequential Cable IDs, Custom Cable IDs, or Import Cable IDs.
- To create Sequential Cable IDs, enter a First ID and Last ID for your cable ID list.
- Custom Cable IDs are non-sequential IDs, or sets with some sequential and some non-sequential IDs. For example, after you select Custom Cable IDs, you can use the Enter Sequence function to create a sequence of IDs for the set, then use the Enter Individual function to add non-sequential IDs.
- When you select Import Cable IDs, you then tap Choose File to select a spreadsheet to import.
- Select the Test Setup to use with the IDs.
- Tap SAVE when you are finished.
How many cable IDs can a project have?
Each project can have a maximum of 5000 cable IDs.
